Women I know--my young friend E

My young Indonesian friend E has had a hard week. Her 4-year-old son has dengue fever, and was hospitalized for almost a week. He was just released today to go home. Thankfully, he is doing much better and should have a full recovery, the doctor said. I believe God has answered my prayers this week for her son, as dengue fever can be a rough disease, particularly for children.

E is a young woman—just 22 years old. She was married when she was 18, and had her son four months later. When I first met her a couple years ago, her marriage was on the rocks. She was thinking about leaving her husband because he was hardly around for her and her son. I asked her if I could pray for her and for her husband to change. She said she’d prayed for months, even waking up in the middle of the night to do special extra prayers that Muslims believe show the earnestness of a request. But her husband hadn’t changed. I prayed for her in the power of the name of Isa Almasih—the Arabic name for Jesus Christ.

A couple weeks later, when we met again, my friend told me that he had changed. He started coming home more often and was becoming a more attentive husband and father. I feel so thankful for the careful attention that God has also paid to my friend, sweetly answering my prayer for her.

I share her story because I care deeply about her, I know God cares for her even more deeply and I hope you will come to care for her, too. She needs your prayers, too.
