My first Mother’s Day as a mom

Today was my first official Mother’s Day with an actual born child. I phrase it that way because last year on Mother’s Day, I was nine months pregnant. In fact, my son was born nine days after mother’s day. Last Mother’s Day, my sweet husband bought me flowers to celebrate.

But as the mother of a very active nearly 1-year-old boy, today was the first Mother’s Day where I could really appreciate a bit of spoiling from my husband. First thing in the morning, I had wanted to get some exercising in. Usually, I have to get up really early (around 5 a.m.) to exercise and shower by the time Evan wakes up and needs my attention. But I got to sleep until 6 a.m. as Brad just took care of Evan all morning so I could spend it how I wanted to spend it.

A little later, Brad took me out to breakfast at a local hotel that serves a breakfast buffet-complete with omelets, fruit, pastries, juice and coffee and tea. Of course, it also serves an Indonesian breakfast of fried rice, white rice, and various meat and vegetable dishes. Brad took most of the baby-feeding responsibilities so I could just sit and enjoy eating. So, I happily ate through all the calories I’d just burned during my workout.

Then he gave me the wonderful gift of two hours by myself at the hotel lounge, while he spent the rest of the morning caring for Evan. I went and sat outside by the hotel’s small pool, enjoying time to read, write, think and pray. Those two hours were luxurious.

Later in the afternoon, we went to the beach with some Indonesian friends of ours. I always appreciate when Brad works so hard during the week and then uses his weekend to spend time with friends who are struggling. Our friends have struggled off and on in their marriage for years. And Brad is such a good influence and example on how to romantically love a wife. He also does such a great job loving our friends.

So, thanks, sweet Brad for making me feel valued and appreciated. You are the best husband and daddy to our little boy!

  1. Happy 1st Mother's Day to you Rebecca! Apart from being a Christian I feel there is no higher calling than being a mother. The "icing on the cake" is having a good husband as Brad to be your best friend and soul mate...completing the family along with sweet Evan.

May God bless you with many more Mother's Days - Lew
